HOW To Make Some Progress
Boys,
Sometimes I tell people I’m not that materialistic
But then sometimes I do sit there and think
I do like nice things for sure,
And I’m sat there thinking “Am I materialistic? Or not?”
And then I kind of come to the same conclusion every time which is—I’m like everybody else in the sense of I do like nice things, but…
For me it’s not about the nice things
It’s the fact about the nice things SIGNIFY or represent that I am making PROGRESS
Like for me, progress is the #1 thing
And I think for very ambitious guys (which all of you in this e-mail newsletter are)
WE ALL care about progress more than anything
Maybe the average joe
The average dude
You know… That has a normal job, a normal life, and has no aspirations to get more out of life,
For him a Ferrari is amazing because it’s a fast car
But I feel like for guys who want MORE out of life
A Ferrari is just a reminder that YOU ARE on the RIGHT path
Like just the same way buying a property is a sign that you’re on the right path,
Just like buying a fucking hotel is a sign that you’re on the right path
Just like buying a bunch of land is a sign that you’re on the right path
Right?
It doesn’t mean that you’ve made it
It doesn’t mean that you know… It necessarily gives you that much happiness
But what it does do is show it’s just a milestone in your journey
It’s like “Okay, nice. I’ve achieved this”
At one point in time, I’ve aspired to achieve this thing and now I have that thing
WOW
That’s progress
That’s IMPROVEMENT
So for me, it’s all about the improvement—the progress
That’s why for a while I used to be addicted to the gym
And I was training really hard
And I was trying to get my deadlift really up every week
It’s like now I’ve done my best deadlift (which is 240 kilos)
With no straps, nothing
Just chalk
GOLD PATEK + 812 SUPERFAST
And every week I was trying to beat my deadlift pretty much
Obviously it wasn’t just 1 rep maxes—3 reps, 5 reps, 7 reps
All these kind of things
And that’s why I’ve gotten so strong at deadlifts because I’d really just want to get stronger at that 1 thing
I feel like making progress in that 1 area of my life just made happier in that one point in time,
Because that’s all I had in terms of what I was working on
So all of you right now reading this e-mail,
I want you to REALLY just understand that everything YOU WANT in this life is just feeling good
FEELING LIKE THE MAN
FEELING respected
It’s all about chasing that feeling
But to GET THAT feeling,
YOU HAVE to IGNORE your feelings and just work work work
To then FEEL AMAZING all the time
Does that make sense?
Even when I feel a bit sad
Or when I feel a bit depressed
Or when I feel a bit angry
Or when I feel whatever, whatever, whatever
The underlying feeling of all my emotion,
Is just I’m proud of who I am
And that comes from working hard
Right?
So IF you WORK really HARD
You’re gonna feel amazing about yourself
And that’s the best feeling in the world
That’s what gives me happiness
Knowing that I feel good about myself and who I am as a person
